Ride Details

August 28, 2010

To All,

First of all I want to thank the members that showed up to support The Sartanburg Regional Hospice and the Roughnecks M/C that set up the event, which included Chapter 313 members "Wild Bill" Greenleaf and Perry "Tracker" Clary. Members that attended were: Raydawg, Chief, Doc, Wizard & Donna, Big Dog, Mongoose & Amanda, Carl B. & his wife, Hoss, Joe Guthrie, Rick C., Cheryl and myself.

For those that missed this event we did around an 85 mile run from the Shriner's Club in Wellford SC over to Landrum, then Hwy 14 to The Spinx at the corner of Hwy 14 & Hwy 11 for a rest stop, then Hwy 11 to the Cliff's and then through the country over to Greer and then Greenville H/D for another rest stop and then back to the Shriner's Club for lunch, door prizes, 50/50 and an auction.

As it always turns out our members took their share of door prizes and Joe G. won the 50/50 taking home a cool $600.00 and change. The auction had some great donated stuff and I was lucky enough to win the bid on a guitar signed by the Marshall Tucker Band members, which I presented to my father-in-law later that night. He has been making music for over 50 years and his health is getting bad and I couldn't think of a better home for that guitar then in his hands playing those sweet old time country tunes.

I know this is getting long but I would like to finish by saying this was the best charity event I have been to in all my years of riding and because my father in his last days was cared for with the upmost dignity and love by the Hospice Nurses and staff, we as a chapter could not in my eyes have supported a better charity or cause and I am honored to ride with each and every one of the members of this chapter!

August 21, 2010

To All,

Well it was Big Daddy, Hoss and I that showed up for a cloudly day of riding. Perry & Kay made it for breakfast, but they were heading to Maggie in the cage for their yearly bonding time. We decieded to go a different route since it was raining in Cashiers according to the radar, so we ended up going up Hwy 11 turning at the F Mart and then through the country over to Hwy 225 and 25 for a brief stop to let some showers pass and then down through the watershed to Saluda and then Hwy 176 to Sidestreet Pizza. It was a little wet by all in all a good ride!

Don't forget next Saturday is the Spartanburg Hospice Ride, so we will meet at 8:00am instead of 9:00am at the Waffle House, because the registration starts at 8:30am at the Shriners Club on Hwy 129 in Wellford!

After lunch it was Hwy 191 to Hendersonville NC and then Hwy 176 down the mountain where everyone starting splitting off for home.

It was a great day with temps in the 80's in the mountains with sunshine the whole way and as always good friends to share it with!

Next weeks scheduled run is to the Rock House Cafe in Linville NC. Due to family commitments I won't be able to make it, so I'll need someone to step up and lead the way. Hope you guys have a great ride!

July, 31, 2010

We had 4 riders show up at the Waffle House, ignoring the weather forecasters and braving the storms!

Joe "Big Daddy" Strayer, Mike "DOC" Driscoll, Brian, and Charlie.

Joe and Brian had finished breakfast and were just checking out when Doc showed up (around 8:45 a.m.), so Brian rode on home and Joe stayed on to have a cup with Doc. Charlie rode up about 20 minutes later, and the 3 Cruisers enjoyed some fun convo, coffee, and sexual advances from the waitresses.( I hope it wasn't Big Mike) :-)

Since the rain was off and on with no signs of letting up, everyone hung out for a bit in the parking lot, chatted a bit longer, then split up for home.

Not sure about Brian and Charlie, but Joe and Mike D. definitely got hammered with some serious down pouring rain! Mike rode all the way from Simpsonville (35 miles), and had the pleasure of experiencing 2" to 8" of standing water at intermittent times during his ride.

Having originally suggested the Sapphire Valley Brew Pub ride, Doc had to make sure he showed up, whether cancelled or not!!!

Hopefully next weekend will host prettier weather...

To All,

Only one thing to say about Saturday's ride...HHHHHHHOOOOOOTTTTTT!!!!! Had three make the trek to T-Bones where along the way we met up with five more from the Rock Hill chapter. After a great lunch and social call with our brothers and sisters to the east, Raydawg, Chief and myself headed over the back roads to Gastonia NC and Carolina H/D. After some shopping we got on Hwy 29 and headed back towards the house where we ran into some liquid sunshine to cool us down outside of Kings Mountain. After waiting about 30 minutes for the monsoon to pass at a Senior Center, we got back on Hwy 29 and high tailed it to the house.

Great ride with good friends, good food and good roads!

To All,

This was one of those rides that you just don't want to miss, perfect weather, perfect temp's, good roads and great friends to share it with. 11 made it for our ride to Little Switzerland NC to include: Raydawg & Kathy, Chief, Wizard, Mike H., Barry, Brian H.and a special appearance by none other than Greg "The Dragon" Lancaster and Todd & Penny Terry and of course me. We headed up Hwy 221 to Marion NC and then Hwy 226a up the mountain to the Mountainview Grill. After lunch out on the deck, Todd & Penny had to split for home, but the rest of us headed up the parkway to Mt Mitchell, which I believe was 58 degrees this fine afternoon. Then it was down the parkway to Hwy 74a into "The Rock" and down Hwy 9 where everyone started splitting off for home.

Man this was a good one and for a holiday weekend we had a great turn out. As always Good roads, Good food and great company!

Next weekends ride will take us to Black Mountain into Asheville NC with lunch at the "Moose Cafe!"

June 26, 2010 Cruisn Cause We Care Ride

There were 10 members of the SCRC at this event. Bill (quidlee) , Perry, Linda, Rick, Jessica, Big Dog, Donna, Wizard, Amanda, and Mongoose.  A great ride for a great cause. We rode a lttle over 100 miles.

June 19, 2010

To All,

As scheduled we made the ride to Cherokee NC (ok, only Maggie Valley) via the BRP. We had 9 riders to start and then picked up 2 more at Echo Valley just to have them split off when got on the BRP above Brevard NC. Back with the original 9 we followed the parkway all the way to Maggie where we got on Hwy 23 and headed to Legends Sports Bar for lunch. After lunch everyone but Raydawg and myself headed for home via the interstate, we went down the road to the Wheels Through Time and took the tour and then headed to Jack's Leather Shop and did a little shopping. We then headed back on Hwy 19/23 to Asheville, then got on Hwy 191 and followed it to Hendersonville and then Hwy 176 down Saluda Grade to Tryon and then we followed it all the way to I-26 where Raydawg split for home and I headed to the "Springs"

We hit only one short shower on the way up and had sunny and hot skies the rest of the afternoon, so overall a good ride to the mountains!

June 12, 2010

To All,

Had 6 riders take part on the Dugan's Run: Raydawg & Kathy, Joe & Christina, Charlie and myself. Left out and went up Hwy 176 until Hendersonville, then over to Hwy 25 to Erkwood Rd to Kanuga Rd to Hwy 64 to Brevard and Dugan's. After a great lunch it was back down Hwy 64 to Hendersonville over to "The Rock" for a stop at Heavenly Hogg's and for some Ice Cream. Then back down Hwy 9 where everyone started splitting off for home at Lake Bowen.

Good ride with one short sprinkle of rain outside of Brevard, but other than that another great day to take in the wind! Don't forget that this Saturday we are heading to Cherokee via the BRP. Temps should be in the low 90's, so come on out and join us!

June 5, 2010

To All,

On vacation and I had a few minutes so I thought I'd get the ride report out. 7 riders made the journey to Highlands NC which included: Raydawg & Kathy, Mike H., Doc, Charlie, Chief and myself. Big Daddy & Christina joined us for breakfast, but Big D. had a Honey-do list so they didn't make the ride. We headed out Hwy 176 to Campbello and then Hwy 11 to Hwy 178, up the mountain to Rosman NC and they Hwy 64 into Highlands. When we got to Highlands we discovered that Don Leon's was no more and a new burger/ sandwich shop called "The Flipside" had taken it's place. The food was good and Noell the counter person was very nice and took care of us as good as the ladies from Don Leon's (even though it just wasn't the same). After lunch the clouds were building so we headed back Hwy 64 to Hwy 281 down the mountain to Hwy 11 and then one last stop at Echo Valley before splitting for home.

We didn't hit any rain, but near Campbello on the way back the rain and come and gone, so the streets were just wet enough to mess our pretty chrome up. Other than that it was a good ride, with great food and good friends!!

To All

We had 6 riders show up for our ride, which included: Rawdawg & Kathy, Big Daddy, Wizard, Doc and myself. We tried the Hunting Country ride again, so it was up Hwy 176 to Landrum and then through Hunting Country, back to Landrum, to Hwy 14 to Sandy Plains NC and then over by the Green River and Cleghorn Plantations to Hwy 221 and then Hwy 11 to the Hwy 11 Cafe for lunch. We kept this one short due to the thunder storms moving in, so after lunch we all split for home!

It was a short one, but it was spent with good friends chowing down on some great food!

To All,

We had 11 riders make the trek to Little Switzerland and the Mountainview Grill, the list included: Raydawg & Kathy, Mongoose & Amanda, Joe & Christina, Wild Bill, Mike H., Doc, Charlie and myself. We headed up Hwy 221 to Marion NC and then Hwy 226a up the mountain to Little Switzerland. After a great lunch and some fantastic views from the back deck of the Mountainview Grill, we jumped on the BRP and headed towards Mt. Mitchell, but since the winds were gusting to about 40 knots and the temps were dropping, we hung a left onto Hwy 80 and went back down the mountain to Marion with a stop at the Chevron next to I-40. Most of the group split off and headed for home down Hwy 221, Raydawg & Kathy, Doc and myself got on I-40 and went down to Hwy 74a and followed it in to Chimney Rock with a stop at Heavenly Hoggs before getting on Hwy 9 and heading for home.

To All,

We had six riders take in the ride to the "Rock" which included: Rawdawg, Wild Bill, Charlie, Chief, Polecat and myself. Up Hwy 176 over to Hwy 9 and then over to the "Mini Dragon" around the backside of Lake Lure and then up to the "Rock." Then it was across Hwy 64 to Hendersonville where Wild Bill split off to head to Cowpens SC for a Patriot Guard detail to give final honors to a WWII veteran. The rest of us headed down Saluda Grade to the Green River Bar-b-que. The weather had held up to this point with only a mix of clouds and sunshine, but when we came out after lunch there was a little mist in the air, but not enough spoil this great ride. Raydawg's thoughts were to head to HD of Greenville for some "Chrome Worship" so we headed down the mountain and cut across at Landrum to I-26 and then down to I-85 were Polecat (PC for short) and Chief split off and Rawdawg, Charlie and I put it in the wind and made it as far as the Pelham exit before the light mist turned into real raindrops, so at that point we turned it around and headed for home!

As always a great ride with good food and great friends!

April 17, 2010

To All,

This will be a short one, we had 8 folks show for the Rider's Choice ride, to include: Joe, Christina, Ray & Kathy, Barry, Troy, Mike H. and myself. Christina got her new ride a little sooner than expected so she is now on a Midnight Blue Kawasaki 900 Custom. We wound up going to Tryon NC for a ride through Hunting Country, but it was cut short when Troy picked up a nail in his back tire on the way up. After trying to get a roll back to tow the bike back to Spartanburg, Joe had to go home and pick up his truck and trailer. After we loaded the bike up, we headed back to Campobello for lunch at the Dutch Plate. After lunch we followed Joe down to Palmetto Cycle to get a tube put in Troy's tire and from there everyone started splitting up for home.

Just as a reminder, next weekend (weather permitting) we will be heading to Cherokee NC for the Rally/Shopping/Harrah's ride.

April 10, 2010

To All,

This weeks ride report is a lot easier to write than last weeks, so here goes: We had 3 bikes and 3 riders make the trek to Fammous Louise's RockHouse Cafe, which included Raydawg, Doc and myself. We headed out Hwy 176 over to Old Furance Rd then through the country then it was Hwy 221 to Marion NC and then Hwy 70 to Hwy 181 then Hwy 183 to the Rockhouse. After lunch and a good cigar, Raydawg wanted to see if we could ride any of the BRP, so we headed north on the parkway but could only make it as far as Linville Falls. So we turned around and headed back down Hwy 221 to Marion and then we got on I-40 and back off at the Hwy 9 exit and took Hwy 9 to Chimney Rock for a stop at Heavenly Hoggs and then back on Hwy 9 into South Carolina and everyone split off for home.

You guys that didn't show missed a great ride and some great food with temps in the 60's in the mountains. But don't worry spring is here and the weather gets better every week, so maybe you can catch the next one!

Raydawg, Doc and me thought about all of you every mile we went down those great roads...NOT!!!!!!!!!

April 3, 2010

To All,

Normally I don't have any trouble writing a ride report, but this one is different. This ride wasn't about the number of bikes and riders or what route we took, it was about 17 people who went on great roads, who ate great food and enjoyed the company of some of the best folks that I have the honor to spend time with. But even with all this going on today, for a brief moment during the ride home time froze and everything went wrong...two friends went down!

Now it doesn't matter how or why it happened, what does matter is that two of our chapter family will need time to heal because of a split second in time that changed an entire ride. The good news is I spoke with Joe about 9:00pm and he said Christina was fine other than bumps and road rash and nothing was broken and that he was on the way to take her home from the hospital. Wild Bill has some road rash, bumps and a sore leg, but he was able to ride the VTX home. Christina and Wild Bill our thoughts and prayers are with you for speedy recovery!

For the folks that were still riding with us when the accident occur, Raydawg & Kathy, Steve H. and his wife, Charlie, Chris & Austin, Big Dog & Jessica, Wizard, Doc, Steve (Wild Bill's Neighbor)I would really like to thank you for realizing what needed to be done after the accident and being all over it! You make me proud to be a member of the SCRC and it is truly an honor the ride with you guys!

March 27, 2010

To All,

We had 6 bikes and 7 riders make the ride to Walhalla SC and the SteakHouse Cafe.

They included: Raydawg & Kathy, Barry, Charlie, Wizard, Chief and myself. We headed out Hwy 176 to Campobello and then Hwy 11 over to Hwy 8. In Pickens I missed the turn to Hwy 183,so we put on a few extra miles in the country before Chief got us back on track with his trusty GPS and before long we were in Walhalla and eating at the Steakhouse Cafe. After lunch we headed back the way I should have come and it was a great road. After a short stop at Echo Valley, everyone started splitting off for home.

Next order of business is this Saturday's ride 4/3/10, we will be making our way to the "Moose"(Moose Cafe) in Asheville NC by way of Black Mountain with stops at Parkway Harley-Davidson and MR Cycle in case anyone wants to do some shopping for the Steel Horse! The weather will be great with temps in the high 70's low 80's.

So if you have never made a ride why not make plans to join us on this one!

March 20, 2010

To All,

We had 13 bikes and 16 riders to join us on "Dugan's Run" The list included: Raydawg & Kathy, Big Daddy, Christina, Chief, Wizard, Big Dog & Jessica, Lucky, Barry, Doc & Mikey Jr, Charlie, Mike H., Ken (Doc's friend) and myself.

This ride started out like most but got real good right at the end, but I'll talk about that later. We headed up Hwy 176 to Campobello and then Hwy 11 up Hwy 276 to Ceasar's Head for a short break, then it was back on Hwy 276 into Brevard NC and then Hwy 64 to Dugan's Pub. After a great lunch Big Daddy tried his hand at "International Relations" when we noticed there were 4 Harley Fatboys parked next to us when we left Dugan's and Joe found out they were from Germany and on rentals going from the east coast to LA. It was then back on Hwy 64 then up Hwy 215 across the mountain into Waynesville NC and then back down Hwy 276 to Hwy 64 into Hendersonville NC and then Hwy 176 into Tryon NC.

At this point the fun began, on the way down Saluda Grade we passed several cops parked and more coming up the mountain and then next thing we knew we were part of "America's Best Police Chases!" A bunch in a Ford Thunderbird had been involved in a police stop for having no tag and not wearing a seatbelt, but there was a little more to the merry band when they were pulled over, they sped away from the cops and dumped some oh shall we call it "Mood Mender" out the window and it was on! As we were heading into Tryon, the Merry Band passed us with 4 or 5 County and State Troopers in high speed hot pursuit and they liked to blew us clean off the road in the middle of a turn. We made our last stop before splitting up at the Hot Stop in Landrum and a Landrum cop pulled in and gave us the details of what was going on and that at Hwy 14 and Hwy 176 the Merry Band rear ended a car and kept going down the road with the boyz in blue in hot pursuit!

As Ben Steagall one of our past 1st Officers used to say at the end of his ride reports, "See what you miss when you don't ride!"(LOL) All in all a great ride with good food and great friends and the mountains were awesome today!!

PS: Don't forget to watch us on the local news and on "America's Best Police Chases!"

March 6, 2010

To All,

We had 14 bikes and 16 riders show up for our run the the Kickstands Bar & Grill to include: Raydawg, Wild Bill, Wizard, Terry & Jessica, Chris & Nicki, Troy, Chief, Doc, Rick C.,Perry, Barry, Cheryl, Jackie (from the Roughnecks M/C) and myself. We headed down Hwy 9 to Chester SC and then over to Hwy 200 to Kickstands. When we got there the power was out from a car hitting a power pole, but after about 20 minutes it was back on and we got down to the business of chowing down on some great food. After lunch we headed down Hwy 200 which merged to Hwy 97 across the lake and then back into Chester where we picked up Hwy 9 back to Lockhart for our last stop before everyone started splitting off for home. The temps started out in the 30's but finally got up to about 60, which made for a great ride with plenty of sunshine!

There is some rain in the forecast for this week, which I'm hoping will wash away the sand and salt on the mountain roads and if the weather holds we can head for the mountains for the first time this new year next weekend!

As always Saturdays ride included: A good ride, good food and good friends to enjoy it with!

Prepared by Sarge:

To All,

We had 7 bikes and 1 rider join us for the ride to the Lake Murray Dam and the Dam Bar & Grill. This included Raydawg, Chief, Big Daddy, Mongoose, Wizard, Wizard's brother Terry and his girlfriend Jessica and Myself.

We headed down Hwy 176 to Ballintine SC and then Hwy 76 to Hwy 6 across the Dam to the Dam Bar & Grill. Ok that was the easy part, this ride fought us all the way, first Terry's GPS fell off and about a mile later the Gas light came on on his new bike, then Wizard's Tool pouch like to fell off, I missed the turn to Ballentine and then went past the Dam Bar & Grill. After all that we had a great lunch and we then headed over to Harley Haven on I-26 for some looking & shopping and then it was I-26 towards home where everyone started splitting off along the way.

This is twice that I have lead this ride and I'm not having any luck getting on the correct roads, but I think I've got it down pat now with a little help from Joe!

February 20, 2010

Prepared by Sarge:

As planned we made the trek to T-Bones at Lake Wiley with 8 bikes and 9 riders to include Raydawg & Kathy, Joe "Big Daddy" Strayer, Mike D., Mike H., Benny "Chief" Holden, Steve H. who we hadn't seen in awhile and Troy Cobb out on his first run with us and myself. Weather was great with temps starting out in the 30's and reaching 60 before the end of the day.

We headed out Hwy 29 to Gaffney and Hwy 216 though Kings Mountain National Park where we stopped at the Visitors Center where the Rock Hill Chapter was waiting for us with 10 members. After a little "Meet and Greet" and some pictures being made by our "Full Throttle Mag." girl Val, we joined up and headed out Hwy 55 to Hwy 557 to Clover SC and then to Hwy 49 To T-Bones.

After lunch the Rock Hill gang was headed to Gastonia NC and we headed back to Sparkle City pretty much backtracking the way we came losing Chief at Blacksburg and with a detour up Hwy 11 at Gaffney to Chesnee dropping off Troy C. along the way.

Good ride, Good food and as always good friends to share it with!

February 6, 2010

For those of you that didn't make it the breakfast Saturday at the Beacon, we had 10 members show and 1 guest. Those in attendance were: Ray, Bill G.,Joe, Christina, Toby, Kim, Chris C. , Chief, Mike D. & his son Mikey and myself.

We discussed some new changes to the group meetings and how we will get info out:

1. We will no longer have a breakfast at the Beacon the first Saturday of the month. Most are already eating breakfast at the Waffle House where we meet before every ride. This change was suggested by Raydawg our 2nd Officer to give us more riding time on the Saturdays!

2. "Bike Nite" has been cancelled and replaced with "Club Nite" which will be held the 1st Thursday of the month at Fatz Cafe on Southport Road. (to start with) This will be a monthly meeting to plan rides or any other items that need to be discussed. For those that have not been there before, they have a private room we can reserve where we will not have to yell to be heard and is non-smoking! I would like to thank Kathy Nyhart and Sharon Childers for this suggestion!

3. Thanks to the efforts of "Wild Bill and Rawdawg" Chapter 313 is now on Facebook! When our page is completely finished, this will be a new way to post rides, ride reports and photos. Free feel to go check it out now, just search for SCRC 313!

I would like to thank everyone for their support in the roster clean-up. For those that have not responded, please do!

Last but not least, I would like to also thank everyone for their support during our recent change of 1st and 2nd Officers. Both Raydawg and myself are dedicated to the ideals that the Southern Crusiers was founded on over 10 years ago...To ride and have fun!
